Baku hosts conference on Renewable energy: International Best Practice and Prospects for Development in Azerbaijan

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA-Economics. In co-operation with the Ministry of Industry and Energy, and the European Union, the OSCE Office in Baku has started a two-day conference to give a comprehensive overview of the current state of the renewable energy sector in Azerbaijan.

The Head of the OSCE Office in Baku, Ambassador Bilge Cankorel, said the application of renewable sources of energy, especially wind and solar energy is beneficial for not only Azerbaijan but all countries.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Energy Gulmammad Javadov said that the Government of Azerbaijan takes interest in the use of alternative and renewable sources of energy, has developed a special programme for such activities.

According to him, Azerbaijan enjoys good potential for the application of alternative sources of energy.

Deputy Director-General, Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology Andreas Obersteller added that joint activities for the use of alternative and renewable sources of energy are undertaken in Azerbaijan within the scope of the EU Twinning Project.

In his words, a memorandum will be signed between Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economic Development to allow the study and training practice of Azeri specialists in Germany.
The conference includes the legal, political and economic conditions, and a discussion about possible future developments. The event also provides an opportunity to learn about international best practice with regards to the necessary legal and regulatory framework for developing a successful renewable energy sector. The conference addresses relevant Azerbaijani government agencies, civil society organizations, private sector representatives as well as international organizations.
The event is part of the OSCE Office in Baku’s efforts to strengthen multi-stakeholder dialogue on energy policy in Azerbaijan and promote the wider application of renewable sources of energy.
