Baku. Viktoriya Dementieva - APA. Qatar’s being part of the Nabucco gas pipeline project is a very attractive but undeveloped idea, said Mikhay Mayer, Hungary’s special envoy on the Nabucco project.

In his words, Qatar might become a major supplier for the project but laying a Qatar-Turkey-Europe pipeline would take a lot of time.

"Turkey and Qatar talked about this matter recently. To fulfil this idea, there is a need for a difficult route through Iraq. Then, will Iraq provide stability and security for the construction of this pipeline? If the pipeline doesn’t through Iraq, but through Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, this will involve a large number of countries, and require a lot of time. Perhaps, the pipeline will be ready and sources of supply will be found by that time,” he added.

Azerbaijan and Iraq remain the major supplier for the project with the Turkmen gas coming later.

Turkey favours Qatar’s involvement in the project.
