Qatarâ€™s joining Nabucco may take much time

Baku. Viktoriya Dementieva - APA. Qatarâ€™s being part of the Nabucco gas pipeline project is a very attractive but undeveloped idea, said Mikhay Mayer, Hungary’s special envoy on the Nabucco project.

In his words, Qatar might become a major supplier for the project but laying a Qatar-Turkey-Europe pipeline would take a lot of time.

"Turkey and Qatar talked about this matter recently. To fulfil this idea, there is a need for a difficult route through Iraq. Then, will Iraq provide stability and security for the construction of this pipeline? If the pipeline doesnâ€™t through Iraq, but through Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, this will involve a large number of countries, and require a lot of time. Perhaps, the pipeline will be ready and sources of supply will be found by that time,â€ he added.

Azerbaijan and Iraq remain the major supplier for the project with the Turkmen gas coming later.

Turkey favours Qatarâ€™s involvement in the project.
