Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-ECONOMICS. Azerbaijan’s gas supply company Azergaz has announced that it started to supply natural gas to Iran as from October 1.

Ekber Hajiyev, chairman of the company, said the country will also start delivering gas to Russia from January 1, 2010.

Although Iran is interested to but as much gas as possible from Azerbaijan, the latter prefers to pump its gas through westbound routes. Azerbaijan supplies gas to Iran in exchange for Iran’s gas delivery to Azerbaijan’s exclave of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Russia secured an agreement with Azerbaijan this year to receive natural gas for its northern areas.
