Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-ECONOMICS. Azerbaijan still doesn’t use alternative energy sources despite their low cost, said Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev.

According to him, the lack of interest in alternative sources of energy is due to extensive oil and gas potential of the country.

"The state should develop specific rules on alternative energy sources, improve the legal framework, and define standards and regulations. The first wind power station has already been built in Azerbaijan. 2.2 MW wind plant was set up by Caspian Texnology near Sumgait. The effectiveness of wind power is proven. The cost of building power plants will be repaid in 7 years,” he added.

The Minister also added that the pilot projects should be implemented in the regions, especially where there are problems with energy supply. Industry and Energy Ministry plans to develop a special program on the construction of wind plants in regions.
