Baku. Lachin Sultanova-APA. The meeting of the expert group on delimitation of the Caspian sea-bed based on the median line approach, which started on February 6, continues. Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov and Turkmenistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khoshgaldi Babayev chair the meeting, APA reports. The experts discuss the issues on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, exchange views on delimitation of the Caspian sea-bed based on the median line approach and investigate related legal documents. The working group includes the representatives of Foreign Ministry, State Oil Company, Justice Ministry and other government agencies.
Foreign Ministry told APA that it is not yet known when the meeting will be over. Turkmenistan’s delegation will stay in Baku by February 10. Official statement will be issued on the results of the meeting.
Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia reached an agreement on the legal status of the Caspian Sea and signed related documents. As there is divergence with Iran and Turkmenistan, bilateral talks are being carried out with these countries. Experts of five littoral states hold meeting twice a year. The next meeting is expected to be held in Tehran soon. /APA/
