Appointment of special rapporteur on Azerbaijan for political prisoners to be considered in March

PACE bureau will consider appointment of special rapporteur for political prisoners will be considered in the session to be held in March, 2008, Andres Herkel, PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan told the APA
Mr. Herkel appreciated the state of political prisoner in Azerbaijan. Though he assesses pardon decree of President, stated that it is not enough for the solution to problem.
Appointment of special rapporteur on Azerbaijan fro political prisoners is expected to be considered in the framework of winter session of PACE held on January 21-25.Though document #11468 â€œlearning state of political prisoners in Azerbaijanâ€ by Cypriot lawmaker Christos Pourgourides had to be debated in the session, it was not included to the agenda. Samad Seyidov, head of Azerbaijani delegation in PACE stated that this issue has not been debated and will not be debated.
â€œThis issue may not be debated. This is work of Monitoring Committee. Any document may be presented to Bureau. Only one document related to Azerbaijan was presented to Bureau and it was not debated,â€ he said./APA/
