Azerbaijani writer living in Iran Ibrahim Rashidi sentenced to 5 month-imprisonment

Ibrahim Rashidi, one of the activists of the movement for the rights of Azerbaijanis in Iran, has been sentenced to five months in jail, chairman of South Azerbaijan Independence Party Research and Information Center Sadig Isabayli told APA that the court sentenced poet Ibrahim Rashidi, who was arrested in Urmiya on May 31, 2006, to five months in jail. Rashidi is accused of anti-government propaganda, Pan-Turkism and illegal protest actions.
The case has been submitted to Appeals Court.
Poet, journalist Ibrahim Rashidi was editor-in-chief of Ulduz (Savalan) journal, writer of Bulud journal and member of the editorial staff of Oyanish and Bakhish magazines.
In May, 2006 Ibrahim Rashidi was accused of propagating march to Bezz castle and boycotting presidential elections in Iran, arrested and held in Evin prison for 16 days. /APA/
