We say it, as our partners in West say that it will not be precedent. Not we or they make decision about it,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated in press conference after meeting of Russia-NATO Council in Brussels on Friday, APA reports quoting Ria Novosti.
He said that several countries, as well as Balkans follow development of situation in Kosovo very attentively.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned today that any solution on Kosovo’s future that is not within a UN framework would take Europe on a ’slippery downward slope’ to instability.
Lavrov accused Western nations of hampering efforts to find a negotiated solution by backing Kosovo independence.
Kosovo is regarded area of Serbia formally since 1999 and is controlled by UN. Negotiations carried out by the mediation of UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari gave no results in 2006 and solution of the problem was commissioned to “Troika” composed of representatives of Russia, US and European Union. Negotiations carried out by troika on the status of the province also gave no result. Kosovo is expected to announce its independence one-sided after group presented report to UN Security Council on it. /APA/
