Second GUAM-Japan meeting held in Tokyo

The second GUAM-Japan meeting was held in Tokyo on December 4-6 at the initiative of Azerbaijani embassy in Japan, joint efforts of Georgian and Ukrainian embassies in the country and at the invitation of Japanese Foreign Ministry.
The GUAM was represented by Tofiq Musayev, Director General of the Department of Foreign Policy Planning and Strategic Research of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Nikoloz Vashakidze, First deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia, Andriy Veselovskiy, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and Valeri Chechelashivili, Secretary General of GUAM.
Both sides welcomed steady and tangible progress which has been made since the 1st GUAM-Japan Meeting in Baku in June 2007, and discussed the possibility of cooperation in such areas as trade and investment promotion, tourism promotion, energy, and transportation as well as the peaceful solution of conflicts on the basis of the United Nation’s Security Council Resolutions.
The GUAM side highly valued the appointment of Special Representative in charge of GUAM by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
Both sides renewed their determination to strengthen cooperation through continuous dialogue.
GUAM delegation held a press conference for local and foreign media outlets in National Press Club on December 5.
Conference “GUAM-Japan cooperation and future prospects” was organized at the invitation of Japan Institute of International Affairs on December 6 and official reception was given on behalf of GUAM countries’ embassies in Japan. /APA/
