Pardon decree expected to be signed on occasion of Gurban holiday

The rights defender noted that the main discussion in the meeting of the Working Group on Human Rights, composed of rights defenders and government representatives, on December 4, will be connected with the pardon decree.
“Before the Working Group used to hold several meetings after the pardon decree was signed. As the rights defenders of the Working Group protested, decision was made to hold the meeting before the pardon decree is signed,” he said.
Chingiz Ganizadeh also said that the decree is expected to be applicable to ten ill-health prisoners, and those who served greater term of their imprisonment.
“We wish the pardon decree to be applicable to the imprisoned journalists, so that it will not cause problems for Azerbaijan in January session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe,” he said.
Member of the Pardon Commission under President, parliamentarian Malahat Hasanova told APA that the commission continues discussing the appeals.
“Signing pardon decree is in President’s competence,” she said. /APA/
