Co-chairs issue statement on results of Azerbaijani and Armenian Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Madrid

The statement says that on November 29, before the meeting of OSCE Foreign Ministers’ Council, the representatives of the co-chairing countries - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns had a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan.
“High representatives of the three co-chairing countries presented fair and balanced core principles of the peaceful solution to the conflict to the both parties. It was noted that the positions have remarkably neared, as a result of the negotiations carried by mediation of the co-chairs in the past three years. The common agreement was that it is high time to eliminate the last divergences.
Co-chairs proposed neutral decisions convenient for the both sides. They also stressed necessity of preserving achieved results within past 3 years. Moscow, Washington, Paris and OSCE adopt document on base principles presented to the sides as vital base for the settlement. The conflict sides were offered to complete present stage of negotiations by accepting base principles and pass new stage-preparation of thorough peace agreement. Moreover they were asked not to impede monitoring carried out by OSCE in contact front line, continue taking measures which will strengthen mutual confidence in all possible fields, prepare people to peace and stop making statements on solving conflict through war at once. The three co-chairs said again that they are ready to help sides in the peaceful solution to the conflict,” he said. /APA/
