Alcee L. Hastings:â€ Azerbaijan achieved progress compared with 2005,â€

Mr. Hastings expressed his regret that the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights will not observe elections to be held in Russia.
Mr. Hastings stated that Azerbaijan achieved progress compared with 2005 and stressed that OSCE PA will observe presidential elections to be held in Azerbaijan in 2008 and will appreciate these elections.
Mr. Hastings mentioned that Helsinki Citizensâ€™ Assembly made a statement on media situation in Azerbaijan recently and noted that they will further pay attention to this issue.
â€œThis is one of the important attributes of democracy. People should have right of freedom of expression. But we also want media to be professional.â€
Mr. Hastings was a head of delegation of OSCE PA who observed presidential elections in Azerbaijan in 2005./APA/
