Northern Cyprus president Mehmet Ali Telet: We want Azerbaijan’s support in restoration of our rights – EXCLUSIVE
The president mentioned that after the referendum on Annan Plan, Greek part of the island was admitted to the European Union.
“The agreement on the membership of South Cyprus to European Union was reached on April 16, 2003. If European Union had wanted, it would have found the solution to the problem, because European Union supported the plan. I think that the solution is to establish unity where political equality is ensured,†he said.
President said that Greek Cyprus’ impeding this solution and straining the situation causes discontent in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
“Of course, it is normal for the state, which tells lies, to set “new lawâ€. Our present policy ensures political equality of both sides. If Cyprus impedes it, we will use other variants. There are two democratic states on the island. The main problem is the recognition and admission of Northern Cyprus to the group of states. We want to open representations of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in other countries, like in Azerbaijan.
We want Azerbaijan and other Turkish states to support us. We only want what belongs to us. We also want the entire world to support us, this is our right,†he said.
Mehmet Ali Telet stated that there are two states, two different democracies in the island.
“There is relation between these states, the two states have separate flag, police, soldier, ministries, parliament, president, namely everything. The problem is recognition of part of the island, its adoption in international level and attending international organizations. Cyprus problem should be solved and it is necessary to unite for the solution of the problem. We do not say that this union should coincide with the desire of Greeks. It means that we will have equal rights in Cyprus, we will represent Cyprus together in the world. For example, if Cyprian Embassy is opened in Azerbaijan, one Cyprus body will also be established in Kyrgyzstan. “Annan plan†was such – one Turk, one Greek in 5 greatest cities of the world. 6 representations will be distributed separately. Greeks will not help us, we will strengthen our economics,†he said.
Mehmet Ali Telet said that they want the entire world, as well as Azerbaijan and other Turkic states to support them.
“We only want what belongs to us. We only want elimination of restrictions. That is why we want the whole world to support us. This is our right,†he said. /APA/
