“Since Azerbaijan is integrating into Euro-Atlantic structures, democratic control over security, defense forces and police is necessary�, said Sami Faltas, Executive Director of Center for European Security Studies (CESS) of the Netherlands, who is visiting Baku, APA reports.
He said that assurance of democratic control over these forces is one of the important conditions for NATO membership.
“World practice shows that if there is no democratic control there are coups, military servant’s coming into power and etc. Democratic control should be ensured in defense, and defense minister should give regular report to the Parliament�, he said. /APA/
