The conference is organized by the Russian Council on International Affairs (INF) in collaboration with the Center for Strategic Studies (SAM) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.

Alexey Meshkov on Thursday read out a message of greetings of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to participants in the international conference.

“Moscow is ready for very close cooperation with Turkey in the fight against the terrorist threat. It is necessary to join efforts to resist this global evil. Moscow and Ankara have different views on separate issues on the international agenda, and in some cases the positions of the two countries differ. The approaches can get closer only as a result of an open exchange of views”, said the message.

Addressing the conference, former Russian Foreign Minister, INF President Igor Ivanov said Russian-Turkish relations are directly related to the settlement of the strategic issues in the region.

“Russia and Turkey are models for responsible players in the regional and global politics. Despite the differences in the views, the two countries have never broken off dialogue and tried to damage each other. Therefore, we can talk about the future of our relations”, Ivanov added.

He went on to add that the fight against IS will be the beginning of joint work toward establishing world order.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Ali Kemal Aydin said that both countries play an important role in the policy of the Eurasian region. "In recent days, the relations between the two countries almost entered a critical state due to violation of Turkey's airspace by Russian aircraft. We believe that such events will not happen again.  We prefer close cooperation with Russia”, he said.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexei Meshkov, at the beginning of his speech, drew attention to the rich history of Russian-Turkish relations. "Today we have an advanced multifaceted partnership, an active political dialogue. We are planning to sign a number of contracts this year. Our relations are based not only on a solid contractual basis but also on a well-structured mechanism of dialogue," he said.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister also noted that there is the main problem of terrorism. According to him, cooperation with Turkey in this field has continued for years, and we are ready to develop it further. "Our key task is the fight against IS. I am convinced that we could do much more in this direction together," he noted.
