Turkmenistan wants to function as ECO associative member

Turkmen Foreign Ministry appealed to the Secretariat of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) to carry out proper procedures on officialization of the country as associative member, APA reports quoting the website â€œTurkmenistan.ruâ€ that Foreign Ministry related the issue with conceptual position of foreign policy of neutral country.
Turkmenistan assesses ECO as international organization on development of socio-economic partnership in the region.
Turkmen President addressing the 10th ECO Summit in Tehran on March 11 announced that the country would function as associative member of the organization henceforth.
ECO was established as regional intergovernmental organization by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey in 1985. Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan joined the organization in 1992.
