The arrest of Hossein Fereydoun, the Iranian president’s brother and adviser, is not going to influence Hassan Rouhani’s will and make him give up his way, Presidential Adviser and Government Spokesman Mohammad Bagher Nobakht told a press conference on Tuesday, APA’s Tehran bureau reported.
In response to a question about the influence of the arrest of the president's brother on the formation of the Cabinet of Ministers, Nobakht said that such steps will not have any influence on Hasan Rohani’s will.
"The president is very patient and resourceful person. He knows that some things are done in order to break stability, but he keeps his moderation. Rohani is very patient. He will never bow his head because of someone's pressure. He will do his job,” said Nobakht.
He added that Hossein Fereydoun regularly appealed to the court and to the prosecutor's office, never avoided answering questions, and did not attempt to escape.
"We do not know the reasons for the large amount of deposit, arrest, and media coverage of this arrest. We hope that such questions will not be politicized so that justice and judgment would not be suppressed,” said the spokesman.
President Hassan Rouhani’s brother Hossein Fereydoun was detained on Saturday night, Judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Mohseni-Eje’i said on Sunday.
The Judiciary spokesman noted that the judicial procedure in case of the issue would continue but the detainee can be released on bail.
President Hassan Rouhani’s brother Hossein Fereydoun was transferred to hospital on Monday after appearing at court in the capital city Tehran.
Speaking to IRNA, Director of the Public Relations Department of the Tehran Emergency Center Hassan Abbasi said the President’s brother encountered a health problem and was transferred to a private hospital, north of Tehran immediately.
Hossein Fereydoun was freed on Monday night after reportedly paying millions of dollars of bail.
In January, 46 lawmakers called on Rouhani to present his brother, a former ambassador to Malaysia, to the powerful judiciary to face "financial corruption charges."
Rouhani’s supporters see his brother’s arrest as part of efforts to undermine him during his second term in office.
Rouhani has not yet commented on his brother's case.
