NATO pledges every effort for anti-ISIL fight

Istanbul. Mayis Alizade – APA. NATO will use every effort in the fight against the terrorist organization “Islamic State” (IS, ISIS, ISIL, Daesh), President of NATO PA Michael R. Turner said at the 62nd session of the Assembly in Istanbul Nov. 21, an APA correspondent reported from Istanbul.

“ISIL militants are mainly acting in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Libya, and are trying to penetrate into other countries. We will do our utmost in the fight against ISIL,” he said, noting that counterterrorism remains as a priority for NATO in the new stage.

Turner, in his last speech as the NATO PA president, stressed that both the US and the OSCE PA expressed support for the democratically-elected government in Turkey after the failed coup attempt made by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) on July 15 this year.

NATO influence will be enhanced in the new stage, he said, underlining the importance of expanding offensive and defensive capabilities of the organization.

Turner urged member states to reinforce their activities both individually and within the organization.

“If you work in your country and within the NATO PA, there will be no problem to deal with”, he added.
