At least 60 killed, over 150 others are injured in Indian train crash - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED

Baku-APA. A train travelling between the northeastern city of Patna and the central city of Indore derailed early on Sunday, killing at least 60 people, injuring over 150 others, a railway official said, APA reports quoting the Telegraph.

 

No confirmed casualty figures were immediately available, but local media initially reported that around 45 people were killed in the incident.

 

However the latest official estimates put the figure higher, "The death toll has increased and stands at 60 now," said Zaqi Ahmed, inspector general of police for Kanpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh. "Over 150 others are injured." 

 

It was unclear what caused the 14-carriage train to derail as it travelled through Uttar Pradesh.

 

Rajnath Singh, India's Home Minister said the Patna- Indore Express train had derailed near Kanpur, in northern India and that the National Disaster Response Force was overseeing the rescue efforts.
