A total of 12 people were killed in a stampede and shootout in Kabul Airport following the Taliban's takeover of the Afghan capital, said Taliban and NATO officials, APA reports citing Reuters.
The Taliban urged citizens to leave the airport and return home, the news agency reported.
The Taliban also said its members posed no threat to the lives of the people staying in the airport. "We don't want to hurt anyone at the airport," Reuters quoted a Taliban official who declined to be identified as saying.
