The Turkish parliament voted to extend the Turkish Armed Forces' mandate to conduct cross-border operations in Iraq and Syria for three years and to participate in the UN mission in Lebanon for two years, APA reports.
President Tayyip Erdoğan submitted the relevant resolutions to the highest legislative body. All political forces supported the extension of the mandate in Lebanon. Four parliamentary parties voted in favor of the mandate for Iraq and Syria, while the opposition Republican People's Party and the pro-Kurdish Democratic Movement for Europe (DEM) voted against it.
The resolution on Iraq and Syria states that "the persistent terrorist threat in the regions adjacent to Türkiye's southern land borders and the failure to firmly stabilize [this region] continue to pose risks and threats to Türkiye's national security."
