North Korea fired some 10 ballistic missiles toward sea, Seoul military says -UPDATED

North Korea fired around 10 unidentified ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan, Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) confirms, following earlier reports of a projectile launch by Pyongyang and days after the regime warned of “terrible consequences” over the ongoing annual South Korea-US military exercises, APA reports.

Seoul’s military detected “around ten unidentified ballistic missiles launched from the Sunan area in North Korea toward the East Sea at around 1:20 p.m.,” the JCS says in a statement.

The Japan Coast Guard announced at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday that what appears to be a ballistic missile was launched from North Korea, citing defense ministry information, APA reports, citing NHK World.

It calls on ships at sea to pay attention to future updates on the situation.

Defense ministry officials say it is believed to have fallen in waters outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.

The Japanese government has convened an emergency response team consisting of officials from relevant ministries and agencies at the crisis management center in the prime minister's office. The team is collecting information and confirming if there is any damage.
