Germany, unlike some of its European partners, does not intend to recognize Palestinian statehood in the foreseeable future, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated this at a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, APA reports.
The head of the German government noted that it is first important to implement the peace plan step by step. "What the end result will be, no one knows today. And because this is the case, the German government, unlike other European states, has refused to prematurely recognize a Palestinian state. We will not do so in the foreseeable future," Merz said. In his opinion, "the conditions" for the creation of a Palestinian state are not yet in place.
