Russia has resumed flights to the Hmeimim military airbase located in Syria’s Latakia province after a six-month hiatus, APA reports, citing Bloomberg.
It is noted that the flights began a week after a meeting in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syria’s new President, Ahmed al-Sharaa.
According to the information, at the end of October, Il-62M and An-124-100 “Ruslan” aircraft belonging to Russia landed at the base. A source close to the Kremlin confirmed to the agency that Russian military personnel have returned to Latakia.
Currently, the talks between Moscow and Damascus cover issues related to the future of Russia’s military facilities in Syria and the restoration of diplomatic relations.
After the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, Moscow temporarily lost control over its bases in Syria, and the Russian Navy began withdrawing military equipment from the port of Tartus.
