Iran condemns US attacks on oil tankers near Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned reported US attacks on two Iranian oil tankers near the port of Jask and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as strikes on several coastal areas overlooking the strategic waterway, Tasnim reports.

In a statement released on Friday, the ministry said the incidents occurred late on May 7 and early on May 8, adding that Iran’s Armed Forces had responded to the attacks.

Tehran described the incidents as violations of the March 8, 2026 ceasefire understanding and the UN Charter. The ministry also criticized recent statements by US officials and warned about the consequences of continued tensions in the region.

The statement reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to defending its territorial integrity and sovereignty, while calling on the UN Security Council and the UN secretary-general to take steps to preserve international peace and security.

Iran also reiterated its support for regional cooperation and called for the establishment of a regional security mechanism without outside interference.
