Ships in the Gulf have begun changing their signals via transponders to show that they belong to China and that a Chinese crew is on board in order to avoid being attacked by Iran, APA reports, citing the Financial Times.

According to the publication, at least 10 ships over the past week have displayed signals in the automatic identification system such as “Chinese owned,” “All Chinese crew,” or “Chinese crew on board.”

It is reported that some ships are also falsifying GPS signals to avoid danger.

According to the Lloyd’s Market Association, currently around 1,000 ships are blocked in and around the Persian Gulf, with their total value estimated at about $25 billion.
