Gaza–APA. HAMAS announced it would involve nearly one thousand volunteers, APA reports. After Israel’s bombing of Gaza Strip, thousands of people expressed readiness to join HAMAS. Gaza sources said HAMAS did not lose its fighters during the air strikes. Most of the victims were Palestinian police and patrol servicemen, who tried to provide security and public order on the streets. They had no relation with HAMAS. The Jerusalem Post said HAMAS had 15 000 troops in Gaza to resist ground operations of Israel army. There are many bunkers and tunnels in the HAMAS-controlled area. The tunnels provide communication between Gaza and Egypt and corridor for transportation of explosives and missile installations.

Israel has begun a large-scale operation in Gaza since December 27. Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak declared war on HAMAS on Monday promising to use all military potential of the country. Israeli troops and heavy techniques gathered on borders with Gaza and the territory was declared as a closed military zone. According to the last reports 375 people were killed during the Israeli air strikes on Gaza. Israel lost 4 people.
