Iranian religious figure calls on former presidents to unite against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Tehran–APA. One of the Iranian authoritative religious figures Bayat Sandshani strongly criticized Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Representative of Ghom City said in his exclusive interview to financial Times Deutschland that Ahmadinejad didn’t defer to the people’s will and created threat for the country. Bayat Sandshani accused the president in violation of human rights, restriction of freedoms and illegally widening authorities of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard. The religious figure called on former liberal reformist presidents of Iran, including Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mohammad Khatami to unite against Ahmadinejad and to win him in the presidential elections in 2009. Iran’s supreme leader Seyid Ali Khamnei said he would support Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s candidacy in the presidential elections.
