Baku-APA. Police in east China’s Jiangsu province on Monday confirmed that it was a flying brake hub that killed a bus driver who saved 24 passengers, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

According to initial investigations, the brake hub smashed through the bus’ windscreen and left the driver with fatal injuries, said authorities with the public security bureau of Wuxi in Jiangsu.

Wu Bin, a 48-year-old bus driver from the east China city of Hangzhou, was injured in the stomach and arm after a sheet of metal flew through the windscreen of the bus he was driving from Wuxi to Hangzhou on May 29.

Investigations show that the 3.5-kilogram brake hub came from the opposite lane to the bus, said police.

Despite his immense pain, Wu stopped the bus, turned on the hazard lights, applied the parking brake and advised the passengers to remain seated before he collapsed, a surveillance video shows.

Wu died of his injuries on Friday. Doctors said Wu’s liver was seriously damaged and three ribs were broken.

Wuxi police authorities have screened over 3,000 vehicles that passed the bus around the time of the accident road and have selected nine that the brake hub was likely to have come from.

Local police are further investigating the cause of the accident.
