Baku-APA. The leader of an Egyptian opposition party says it will abide by its decision to boycott the country’s parliamentary election run-offs, APA reports quoting Associated Press.
Al-Sayed al-Badawi, leader of the liberal Wafd Party, says his party will not participate in Sunday’s run-offs to protest alleged fraud in the first round on Nov. 28.
Scuffles broke out outside the Wafd headquarters when members in favor of the boycott faced off with others who wanted the party to contest the vote.
Wafd candidates won two seats in the Nov. 28 vote and nine more were slated to contest the run-offs.
Egypt’s largest opposition group, the Muslim Brotherhood, announced Wednesday it was boycotting the run-offs also to protest the alleged fraud. It was entirely shut out in the first round.
