Baku-APA. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met Tuesday with Ammar Al-Hakim, head of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, discussing the latest efforts to form a new government in Iraq, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.
"We heard significant confirmations from the Egyptian leadership on the importance of preserving the national unity and Arab identity of Iraq, the consolidation of the Iraqi people and that the solutions for political crises come from within the country," Hakim told reporters after the meeting.
Hakim, whose Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council comprises a major group in the Iraqi National Alliance (INA) bloc which came third in the March elections in terms of seats, voiced appreciation for Arab and regional efforts to stabilize Iraq and help different Iraqi political forces reach a consensus on a national unity government.
"We stressed our view on the necessity of reaching a national partnership government that includes the four and other winning lists," he said.
A new government of Iraq has not formed seven months after the parliamentary election as major political blocs could not agree on the power structure.
The Iraqia bloc, led by former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, won with a slight majority in the elections. The State of Law alliance, led by incumbent Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki, won the second place.
The INA and State of Law blocs have formed a broader Shiite alliance called the National Alliance, with a total of 159 seats. But Allawi said his bloc would not recognize the new Shiite alliance.
