Baku-APA. An Indian-controlled Kashmir official on Tuesday said recent flash floods in Ladakh have killed 234 people, APA reports quoting news.xinhuanet.com website.

The Minister for Revenue and Relief Raman Bhalla revealed the details in a written reply to the legislators of the region, where the Assembly has been in session these days.

"As many as 234 people died in Leh and 424 others were seriously injured," Bhalla said in the reply to a legislator’s query.

The dead people include five foreign tourists and 13 Nepali workers.

The Divisional Commissioner’s office in Srinagar, the summer capital of India-controlled Kashmir, had earlier stated the death toll in Leh flash floods stood at 192.

On Aug. 6, a sudden downpour and cloud burst triggered flash floods and mudslides in the mountainous Ladakh’s main town Leh and several other villages wreaking havoc.

Officials say approximately 10,000 people in 34 villages were affected. Around 1,400 hectares of agricultural land was damaged in the calamity.

Around 80 percent of Ladakh’s infrastructure has suffered damage in this natural calamity.
