Flood kills 56 in Indonesian West Papua: minister

Baku-APA. Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Public Welfare Affairs Agung Laksono said here on Tuesday that the massive flood in Wasior, West Papua that continuously occurred from Sunday to Monday has claimed 56 lives, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

"That latest figure of casualties came up from National Disaster Mitigation Agency," the minister was quoted by the Antara news service.

Citing to the latest data he received from the agency, Agung said that 62 were recorded as injured victims.

"So far I had no data on the refugees. But reports from the disaster mitigation agency and Papua provincial government, the flood had already receded," he said.

According to the minister, the massive flash flood has damaged several infrastructure facilities, including bridge, schools and a number of public houses.
