Baku-APA. Reports are just coming in that a Magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Taiwan at approximately at 17:33:52 UTC today September 28th. The exact location of the quake was 24.109°N, 121.664°E and it occurred at a depth of about 3.9 miles beneath the surface of the earth, APA reports quoting thenewsoftoday.com website.
The following are distances from the epicenter of the quake:
15 km (10 miles) NNE of Hua-lien, Taiwan
60 km (35 miles) SSW of Su-ao, Taiwan
100 km (60 miles) E of T’ai-chung, Taiwan
105 km (65 miles) S of T’AI-PEI, Taiwan
So far there has been no reported injuries or deaths from the Earthquake, however it is still too soon to determine if this will remain the case. Taiwan is located in an extremely active part of the planet for Earthquakes, and although a 5.0 quake is not severe, some areas with poor building codes may be at risk of damage.
