Baku. Suleyman Farzaliyev – APA. Iranian nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri, who was abducted during Umrah, minor pilgrimage to Makkah and taken away to the United States, took refuge in the Pakistani embassy in Washington. According to APA, Mehr news agency said Amiri who was "abducted by Americans went to Iran’s interest section... and asked for a quick return to Tehran". Iran’s interests in the United States are managed by the Pakistani embassy as Tehran and Washington have had no diplomatic ties. Iranian officials have long maintained that Amiri was kidnapped by US agents from Saudi Arabia in July, 2009 where he had gone for Umrah pilgrimage.
