Baku – APA. Turkey’s state-run news agency says police have detained Tarkan, Turkey’s best-known pop star who makes top music charts worldwide, along with some other entertainers in Istanbul, APA reports quoting “The New York Times” newspaper.
The Anatolia news agency says Tarkan, who only uses one name, was detained in a police raid early Friday. Police is questioning him and the others. No charges have been filed.
Tarkan has been the chart-topping Turkish pop star for more than a decade in Turkey and Europe since he has sold millions of records in Turkey and his catchy Arabic-influenced tune ’’Simarik’’ --’’Spoiled’’ -- reached the top of music charts in France, in 1998.
Turkish police often carry out drug operations in Istanbul. Turkey is a transit point for drugs between the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
