68th session of UN General Assembly starts

APA reports that the discussions as a part of the session will start on September 24 and last for October 1. On those days, 89 heads of state are expected to make speeches at the General Assembly. 41 countries will be represented at the level of heads of state and 61 at the level of foreign ministers. Ion Botnaru, the Director of the General Assembly and Economic and Social Council Affairs Division (ECOSOC) announced that 193 member states will deliver speeches. He said that the main topic for debates will be development after 2015 and Syrian situation.

 

The session will be chaired by John William Ashe from Antigua and Barbuda. He was elected as a chair of the 68th session on June 14.

 

In parallel with general debates, a high-level meeting on sustainable development will be held on September 24 and an event dedicated to the review of the Millennium Development Goals on September 25. A meeting on nuclear disarmament has been scheduled for September 26. The dialogue on the issue of international migration will be held on October 3-4.
