U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reached an agreement during negotiations in Riyadh to establish a consultation mechanism aimed at removing "irritants" in U.S.-Russia relations, U.S. State Department said in a press release, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
It was noted that Rubio and Lavrov agreed to create negotiation groups to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
At the same time, Rubio and Lavrov reached an agreement to cooperate on issues of common geopolitical interest.
The Russian Foreign Minister and the U.S. Secretary of State also agreed on future cooperation in the fields of economy and investment.
But on timelines, the statement noted that “one phone call followed by one meeting is not sufficient to establish enduring peace,” and so it is only a start of the process.
