The United States and the UN have signed an agreement that will change Washington's approach to funding the world organization's humanitarian programs, announced US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, APA reports.
According to him, the United States "will not use taxpayer dollars to fund wasteful, un-American, or ineffective" programs. "Today, the State Department and the United Nations signed an agreement that radically reforms how the United States designs, funds, and oversees UN humanitarian work to save more lives with fewer American taxpayer dollars," Rubio wrote in X.
As the US Secretary of State noted, "the new model will better share the burden of UN humanitarian action with other developed countries." It also requires the UN to "reduce bloated [spending], eliminate duplication, and implement new mechanisms for performance measurement, accountability, and oversight."
