A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump has not been scheduled yet, but Washington intends to continue engaging with the Russian side any time there is an opportunity for it, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday, APA reports.
"There is no summit scheduled yet... But we are going to continue to engage with the Russian side. Any time there is an opportunity to engage with them, we are going to do so," Rubio told reporters after his talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov when asked if there are plans for a possible meeting between the presidents.
He added that "at the end of the day," Russia and the United States have to have a relationship, as they are "two important countries in the world."
"We are going to continue to engage and talk, and if we see opportunities to make progress on peace, we want to be involved in pursuing that. Obviously, Mr. Lavrov is here today. We had an opportunity to discuss some things, and I thought it was important and good. We talked, and we shared some information and ideas that I intend to take back to the president," Rubio said, adding that he hopes that the talks' outcome can lead to "something positive."
