Musk plans to ditch 75% of Twitter staff

Billionaire Elon Musk has reportedly told Twitter's "prospective investors" that he plans to lay off 75% of Twitter's 7,500 employees once he acquires the social media giant, APA reports citing Teletrader.

According to a report published by the Washington Post on Thursday, Twitter planned to cut its staff by about 25% by the end of 2023. However, the platform could be left with as little as 2,000 workers if the expected deal with Musk goes through.

Twitter's former executive Edwin Chen warned this could cause a significant adverse effect on the social media platform, with many services going down. Still, Musk's $44 billion acquisition of Twitter is expected to be closed before the end of October. Twitter negated all layoff plans in an email sent to staff following the report.
