The European Union will focus on developing cooperation with the United States in the digital sphere, recognizing the superiority of overseas technologies in such critical areas as cloud services, artificial intelligence (AI) and microchips, the newspaper Politico reported with reference to the draft document of the European Commission (EC) on the International Digital Strategy, APA reports.
Brussels is preparing to openly admit what many have said privately: Europe is simply unable to "separate itself from American technology companies," the publication says. Having rejected ambitious but unrealistic plans, the EU will "strongly promote cooperation with the United States, as well as with other players in the field of technology, including China, Japan, India and South Korea."
"Separation is unrealistic, and cooperation will remain significant throughout the entire technological value chain," the document says. Its authors acknowledge the "superior ability of the United States to innovate" and "Europe's inability to capitalize on the digital revolution."
American companies in the field of cloud services have captured more than two thirds of the European market. The US is significantly ahead of the EU in the development of AI. At the same time, Europe's share of the global microprocessor market has dropped to about 10%.
