Joe Biden, who contracted coronavirus during his campaign for the US presidency against Donald Trump, said his illness was a "slap in the face" for him, APA reports.
Journalist Jonathan Carlin wrote a book called "Revenge: Donald Trump and the Campaign That Changed America," in which he wrote about the adviser's words.
In July 2024, the then-incumbent US president announced his withdrawal from the race in the midst of the election campaign. Shortly before that, it was revealed that Biden, who had been experiencing some functional impairment, had contracted the coronavirus.
“God was sending us certain signals,” Karl quotes the counselor as saying. “Then he slapped him in the face and infected him with Covid.”
Karl noted that Biden did not announce his decision to withdraw his candidacy in a televised address because he was very ill at the time. "That's why his team decided to first issue a written statement and then a few days later make a public address," he added.
It should be noted that Biden's successor in the presidential race was Kamala Harris, who lost to Trump in the presidential election.
