U.S. calls for action to stop violence in Syria

Baku-APA. The Obama administration on Friday condemned the violence in Syria, calling on the international community to take action to stop such violence, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

White House spokesman Jay Carney called on the international community to join the Friends of Syria to take action to prevent further violence in Syria.

At the State Department, department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland hoped that the humanitarian aid can be distributed in Homs and the people there will get the relief in need.

The nearly one-year-old unrest in Syria continued unabated with violence nationwide, amid increasing international pressures.

Last week, participants from 60 countries and regions gathered at the first Friends of Syria Conference in Tunisia’s capital Tunis, calling for an immediate ceasefire in order to allow humanitarian aid into the country.

The International Red Cross announced on Thursday that it has been granted permission by the Syrian government to enter Baba Amr, the restive neighborhood in Homs, to deliver relief aid, including food and medical supplies, to local residents.

Convoys of the International Committee of the Red Cross arrived in Homs on Friday and was currently preparing to enter Baba Amr to deliver aid to residents there.
