Obama calls British PM on Syria

Baku-APA. U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday called British Prime Minister David Cameron to exchange views on "global issues," notably Syria, the White House said in a statement, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Holding "frequent consultations on a range of global issues," the two leaders discussed the situation in Syria and agreed to "coordinate closely on efforts" in the aspect, said the statement.

Some Western and Arab countries are trying various ways to push for a change of regime in Syria which has been gripped by a political crisis for nearly a year.

Among them is a calculation to provide political and economic aid to Syrian opposition parties to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Obama also talked about the preparations for Cameron’s official visit to Washington scheduled for March 13-14, said the statement.

Other topics Obama and Cameron covered included Somalia, Afghanistan and the recent developments in Greece whose parliament approved early Monday a new austerity deal for a second bailout loans from EU and International Monetary Fund creditors to avoid a full-scale default next month.
