Baku-APA. The European Union (EU) on Wednesday condemned the attacks led by the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey, which killed dozens of Turkish security members and civilians, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"I was appalled to learn of today’s shameful terrorist attacks in Turkey by the PKK," said EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton in a statement, "I condemn them in the strongest terms, and deeply regret the loss of life."

"I stress once again that the EU stands with Turkey in its resolve to fight against terrorism," she said, "The PKK remains on the EU’s list of terrorist organizations, and the EU has recently stated its readiness to intensify its dialogue with Turkey in combating terror."

The PKK attacks in the southeastern province of Hakkari early Wednesday has killed 26 Turkish security members and wounded 22 others.

Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the EU, the PKK took up arms in 1984 to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. More than 40,000 people have been killed in conflicts involving the PKK during the past over two decades.
