Baku-APA. The U.S. State Department on Tuesday condemned the recent deadly clashes in Yemen, saying the violence undermined efforts to solve the political crisis in the Arab country, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"The United States extends our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during recent protests in Sana’a," said department spokesperson Victoria Nuland in a statement.

"We have long condemned the use of violence during this period of upheaval and reject any actions that undermine productive efforts underway to achieve a peaceful political resolution to the current crisis in Yemen," said Nuland.

Nuland’s statement came after the continuing clashes since Sunday in Yemen’s capital city of Sanaa and the southern province of Taiz have brought the death toll to 69, and more than 750 others were injured.

She urged all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from further violence, calling for "a prompt, impartial investigation into the events that led to the recent violence."

She said the U.S. continues to support the Yemeni people’s aspirations for a peaceful and orderly transition.

"A political solution is the best way to avoid further bloodshed," she said, adding that the U.S. remains hopeful that the transition deal brokered by the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) could be signed.
