Baku-APA. Mexican President Felipe Calderon reshuffled his cabinet Friday, appointing new heads for the ministries of finance, energy and health, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The cabinet shuffle was made when Calderon is completing his six years of presidency and Mexico is preparing for the 2012 presidential elections. Public opinion polls show the opposition Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) holding a large, yet early lead.

Calderon accepted the resignation of Finance Minister Ernesto Cordero, who is expected to run for the presidential nomination of the governing National Action Party.

Cordero was the most prominent of the officials changing office. He was replaced by Energy Minister Jose Antonio Meade.

Meanwhile, Jordy Herrera Flores was designated as new energy minister to replace Meade.

Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova also resigned on Friday. He is expected to run for governor in his home state of Guanajuato.

Salomon Chertorivski, former commissioner of a health insurance program, replaces Cordova.

Additional changes were made in Cisen, the country’s intelligence agency, which will be headed by Alejandro Poire. Poire, the former government security spokesman, is replaced by Alejandra Sota, director of communications for the president’s office.
