Baku-APA. Liberal Democrats have declared their support for the views of the party’s ministers who said that they could not trust their Conservative Coalition partners, APA reports quoting telegraph.co.uk web-page.
David Heath, Norman Baker, Andrew Stunell and Paul Burstow were embarrassed this morning after making unguarded remarks about the Tories to reporters posing as constituents.
But now a number of leading Lib Dems have backed up their comments, adding to the impression that the large sections of the party are unhappy with the Coalition, and have failed to be won over by their Conservative partners.
Lord Steel, the leader of the Liberal Party which merged with the SDP to form the Lib Dems, said: “I think that Liberal Democrats in the country will be cheered to see that so many of their colleagues in Government are fighting their corner.”
Adrian Saunders, a Liberal Democrat backbencher, criticised the party’s leadership for failing to concentrate on defeating the Tories.
He added that Nick Clegg and his team had not done enough to win round rebels who recently voted against the Government’s plans to raise tuition fees.
