Baku – APA. A leaked U.S. diplomatic cable says a Jamaican mayor acknowledged that his administration had worked with an alleged drug baron on crime-fighting initiatives, APA reports quoting “Associated Press”.
The September 2009 document says Kingston Mayor Desmond McKenzie told an embassy officer his administration collaborated with Christopher "Dudus" Coke to reduce crime. McKenzie also warned of a doomsday scenario if Washington did not drop its extradition request for Coke, a slum boss with ties to the ruling party.
McKenzie’s main office line went unanswered Wednesday.
The cable appeared Wednesday on the website of the British newspaper The Guardian.
In June, Coke was captured and sent off to face charges in the U.S. after street battles killed more than 70.
